Public transportation is presently inaccessible to all disabled persons and constitutes a major constraint to Lupus patients’ participation in social and economic activities.
The van is mainly used for the following purposes:
- Transport services for lupus patients who go to hospitals on a regular basis for dialysis, radiotherapy and chemotherapy (for lupus patients with cancer) and lupus patients with severe osteoporosis.
- To raise lupus awareness around the island mainly in hospitals, community health and social centres, colleges and other institutions.
- Lupus Alert will also organise regular safe outdoor recreational activities for lupus patients.
- Unfortunately, many lupus patients are also bed ridden due to severe complication of their lupus. Lupus Alert will be able to visit those patients on a more frequent basis.
